A picturesque campsite in Howqua Hills Historic Area, on the banks of the Howqua River, with good swimming. Home to Fry's Hut, a historic site associated with Fred Fry (featured in Nevil Shute's 'A Far Country'). Horse-yards available (horse riding permitted seasonally Nov-May). BYO everything — no facilities beyond regularly-attended long-drop toilets. Easy 2WD drive in. Dogs permitted on-lead only within the Historic Area — not into the adjoining Alpine National Park.
Access is manageable but take the last stretch slowly, especially after rain.
On the ground you'll find basic (non-flush) toilets, no showers, unpowered sites, fires allowed in designated fireplaces (never on Total Fire Ban days). Nearest shops: Goughs Bay General Store, ~23km, so arrive fully stocked.
