An open, free campground in the Yarra State Forest near McMahons Creek, among ferns and mountain ash forest — popular with lyrebirds and wombats. Fire pits, picnic tables, 2 drop toilets, tent platforms. Easily 2WD accessible, first-come-first-served, no bookings or fees. Not suitable for caravans due to the hilly, uneven terrain.
Access is manageable but take the last stretch slowly, especially after rain.
On the ground you'll find basic (non-flush) toilets, no showers, unpowered sites, fires allowed in designated fireplaces (never on Total Fire Ban days). Nearest shops: IGA Warburton, ~11km — handy for anything you forget.
It sits roughly 93 km from Melbourne in the Yarra Ranges, which makes it an easy run for a weekend or even an overnighter.
