The biggest and most popular free campground near Halls Gap, set among old Radiata pine plantation on the eastern edge of the Mount Difficult Range — technically in Mount Difficult State Forest, just outside Grampians National Park proper, which is why dogs are allowed here on-lead when they are not permitted in the surrounding national park. 30 unpowered sites for tents, camper trailers and caravans. Fire pits with BBQ plates, non-flush toilets, bush showers, non-potable water tank (seasonal). First-come-first-served, no bookings or fees.
Access is manageable but take the last stretch slowly, especially after rain.
On the ground you'll find basic (non-flush) toilets, showers, unpowered sites, fires allowed in designated fireplaces (never on Total Fire Ban days). Nearest shops: Halls Gap Licensed General Store, about 9 km as the crow flies (7–10 km of gravel road) — handy for anything you forget.
It sits roughly 260 km from Melbourne in the Grampians (Gariwerd), which makes it a reasonable run for a weekend away.
